View from the northeast of the completed powder magazine at Colonial Michilimackinac. This was part of the longest archaeological dig in the United States. The powder magazine was burned during the final demolition of Fort Michilimackinac, which occurred in 1781 when the British moved the fort to nearby Mackinac Island. What they didn't move, they burned. Charred wood wall posts and floorboards were preserved when the sod roof collapsed on them, extinguishing the fire.
