About the Church at Colonial Michilimackinac

St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, built in 1743, was a vital part of the Michilimackinac Community. Here French-Canadian worshipers practiced their faith by attending daily mass and witnessing baptisms, marriages and funerals of their family and friends. A resident priest served the community until 1765 when the Jesuit priest Father Pierre Du Jaunay transferred to Quebec City. Thereafter, Michilimackinac was served by visiting priests including Father Pierre Gibault from Kaskaskia in the Illinois country.
