The Eagle's Flight Zip Line is functionally complete.  The landing platform, shown in the photo to the right, is nearly finished.  Testing has taken place with great results.  The only thing left to do is wait...the park opens on May 5.

POST, January 7, 2008

Just like the Forest Canopy Bridge, the Eagle’s Flight Zip Line is near completion. Construction by Mackinac State Historic Parks’ operations unit and Jim and Michelle Liggett’s company, Ropes Courses, Inc., was started in mid-December when the parks’ crew started clearing trees for the length of the line. At the same time as chainsaws buzzed, Jim’s crew was high above the banks of the creek constructing the Forest Canopy Bridge. There was a lot of activity, and things progressed quickly.

According to Mike Sutton, our mainland park manager and the construction supervisor on our end of things, once the clearing was cut for the wires, poles were tied off and guy-wires—tensioned cables designed to add stability to the structure—installed, a cable was run, and the counterweights installed. The platforms for the zip line will be built by the operations unit in the spring.

The zip line runs from the southeast side of Mill Creek to the northeast side.

Please keep in mind, however, that it’s not yet open to the public because it is still a construction zone with obvious dangers. Come May 5, however, you could be zipping over the creek bed and spotting trout in the pond below. Look forward to seeing you there!

Stay tuned for more posts about construction of the zip line.
