Blacksmith Demonstrations By Interpreters

A blacksmith demonstrates to visitors how smiths on Mackinac Island worked their trade.  The interpreter also shares how important the local blacksmith was on Mackinac Island and why the Benjamin Blacksmith Shop was in business from the 1880s until the 1960s.  The shop is interpreted to the 1950s era to show how a blacksmith was still a vital trade on Mackinac Island where automobiles are prohibited.
