Marshall entered in the "JOURNAL of Light-house Station at Old Mackinaw Point 1907": January 26th (Saturday) “light E & Cleare Keeper out on the Ice fishing Ice is permanent hands getting ready to Close Station. Barometer 29.50”. January 27th (Sunday) “Closed Station to day for the Winter. Barometer 29.70”. March 28th (Thursday) “fresh W & Cleare Working at Engines Ice is going Slowly Sounded fog Signal from 12 P to to 2 am. Barometer 29.40”. March 29th (Friday) “fresh SE & fog to SW gale Sounding fog Signal the Ice has moved out of the Straits to day. Barometer 29.50”. March 30th (Saturday) “Gale W & Cool With Snow flurries Ice has Shoved back in the Straits Last night Very hard Ice Little Water to be Seen. Barometer 29.60”. March 31st (Sunday) “fresh N & Leare & freezing Straits full of Ice and hard heavy Ice at that Very Little Water in Sight. Barometer 29.90”. George Marshall on Sunday, January 27, 1907, closes the station for the 1906-1907 shipping season. On Wednesday 27 March 1907 Keeper Marshall reopens the station for the 1907 - 1908 shipping season. |
